Google apartment locator IAH airport, pick one and give your criteria. I have no idea if apartments in Kingwood are that cheap, but it would be a good location. It's a free service. Be sure to emphasis the word "safe". Zip 77060 is the Greenspoint area (nicknamed Gunpoint), not a good area in apartments.

I didn't thoroughly check, just looked what was close to IAH in that budget. cheryjohns is correct about the Greenspoint area. it's got plenty of bad press so ignore that zip code. (been forever since I've been to that mall) maybe something in Humble might be close to that budget. or maybe some apartments off 1960 between I-45 & I-59 (if there is any). I don't think Kingwood would fit that budget unless things have changed up there.

$600 or less on your own, close to the airport?

It's called Northborough Drive in Greenspoint.

Greenspoint City and it's a hop, skip and a jump to IAH. Just saying. You want cheap like that close to the airport you don't get good.

True, but don't skimp on firearms and ammo.

Check out lantern village apartments. It might fit your budget. The surrounding area is not safe, but the apartment has good security service.
It is far from the airport.

Here is a zip-code map. Just type in "Houston, Texas". IAH is in the 77032 area code.

Free ZIP code map, zip code lookup, and shipping comparisons

This should help you to have some idea if you are close or not.

Oxymoron - cheap and good.

Stay away from the greenspoint area. If you are moving with a job that's great. But a word of caution if you are moving without a job because you heard Houston is so cheap and full of jobs. It isn't cheap to live in a decent, safe area.

For 600 a month, he can get a decent living space, but he will not get the Ritz.

Is Greenspoint still bad as it was in the 90s?
