What are your thoughts on having a covered swimming pool? Is it a good idea?

There are pros and cons to both. Indoor pools are great to keep away the bugs, easier to heat and use in the colder months and you can use it when the weather is not nice. But the cons include having to deal with the humidity from the pool (especially is its attached to your house), and it doesn't have the ambiance of a nice resort like feel personal preference here).

personal preference but I'd rather have an outdoor pool because it allows you to be outside in the hot Houston months without sweating profusely.

Indoor pool would be good for year round swimming, but you need the space for it and I would think would be more expensive.

I'd rather have an outdoor pool, more conducive to the grillin' and beerin' and I don't mind the heat of summer when there's a pool involved. Indoor pools have no atmosphere and I suspect it might be a hard sell for potential buyers in this market.

Also, more importantly for me, I like my water temperature to be over 85, more like 90, so I'd need to heat an indoor pool year round. I think the best solution would be an outdoor pool with one end covered by pergola so you have some shade if you want.

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish by building it indoors.
I know someone with a screened in pool. This doesn't keep the cold out, works for controlling bugs and leaves, pine needles etc. i personally think that the weather is nice enough here that you wouldn't have to fully enclose for weathers sake.
