Hello,

I've got a new job in Houston and my family will be moving from Austin on summer 2015. We are looking at building but are in doubt of what community would be best. After some research, we are down to Harmony, Falls at Imperial Oaks, Alen Woods and Wildwood at Northpointe. All of the cited communities have similar prices for what we are looking for (5 BR, around 4K SF). My job is right next to IAH (close to the airport entrance). Harmony seems to be the shorter commute. Imperial Oaks has more green but is more isolated. Northpointe has slightly better schools (according to greatschools.org at least) and a lot of shopping close by and Alden Woods doesn't have much info online but is in Cypress, which seems like a nice area. Commute would be a little worse from Cypress I think, as I-8 is nasty in the afternoon.

My questions are:

which area would hold house prices better?

What is worse, I-8 and 249 or I-45/Hardy Toll Rd?

what of these communities have better schools (Tomball vs Conroe)?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Riverstone would be an hour and a half commute. Anything south of 290 is out.

Did you try Bedners Landing Estates? There are many 5BR and 4k SF homes on HAR plus no MUD tax.

thanks for the tip. This one is right next to Harmony I see. However, building there would be way north of $500k. Partners in Building prices are $500K without the lot.

There are a lot of builders out there building on 1 acre lots but I know Trendmaker just opened up a new section of gated lots that are more traditional size instead of the 1 acre. Also with out the MUD tax of $1.40-1.50 that most new communites have, your buying power is around $75k better when you factor in your entire monthly housing contribution.

I'll check that out but it seems to be a bit over my range.
