Not only were local residents locked out of their own school during closed enrollment, now you want to build an additional permanent structure, where ? Have you walked around the building ?

People in the older communities are not angry about rogue ideas, there is large concerted effort within Riverstone to push older communities out of schools they paid to have built. Ask any of the board members which we have and it's confirmed. Go on the social media outlets and you'll hear arguments about how much taxes they pay so they're owed the best schools - unfortunately, they don't bother to compare taxes nor understand how they're paying for new sewage lines, sidewalks, water works, etc ... The meetings are very indicative of what's going on. They hijacked ALL the meetings, muscled their way to the front even though there was no room and are totally disrespectful. This is definitely not a small rogue effort.
A good friend lived in Riverstone and got me to sign one of those petitions last go around. Now I am on their mailing list and this is pretty much their plan for every meeting.

I remember in the mid 90s, there was a vocal group of Greatwood parents who were convinced they could argue their way into getting Greatwood zoned out of LCISD into Fort Bend ISD, because "it's so much closer than Lamar / Terry HS."

They were an ill-informed folk who pulled their kids out of LCISD once they aged out of Dickinson Elementary and would have otherwise had to co-mingle with "those people" from Richmond/Rosenberg (oh the horror.)

For them to have Greatwood moved that they'd have to have both school districts agree.

A fact that eluded these individuals - it was not up to the developer to decide what school district GW was zoned to.

alot of times its the real person who feeds crap into folks as developers know what they're doing.

How many nieve folks assumed Shadow Creek was all Alvin ISD? There was a reason the homes in the back were cheaper and the FB County is there plain as day.

Similar to people who buy off Cullen and 518 (Morningside) thinking its Dawson High when its really Worthing. lol

Those areas are in separate counties and have Houston postal addresses. What did these people do when they found out they're Worthing-zoned?

The Thornwood experience (trying to go from KISD to SBISD) proves how difficult it is to rezone out of an ISD in Texas if they don't want to let go of the property tax revenue

The ISD switch is nearly impossible, but what the Riverstone residents are trying to muscle their way into IS achievable. I hope the existing First Colony/Commonwealth/Brazos Landing/Avalon (original Avalon) residents mobilize take the fight to this effort. The Riverstone group is out with pitchforks and appears to have a level of sophistication to it already.

They also have a backer on the board who is intentionally stirring trouble, probably because he has higher aspirations and wants backing from the RS voters. I know people in the Avalon section and frankly, they'd rather see the east side go as it reassures them their presence at FSMS and CWE. This is all horrible because ultimately, it's kids we're talking about. No one should advocate rezoning others to make space for their own. Before there was CWE and FSMS, I heard some of the communities outside First Colony had to go to school across HWY 6, I believe LOMS but not exactly sure. That's a good 4 -5 miles for some. Yet you have residents who don't want to go there who are walking distance.

I wonder if there's a way to make such a transfer to happen by a bill being passed as law (i.e. the bill specifies that X parcel is transferred to Y district, or that districts A and B are consolidated)?

After all the requirement for changing school districts is under the Texas Education Code. If lawmakers attach a provision that is specifically written to make the change happen for that particular neighborhood...?
