I went to swap my out-of-state DL to a TX DL. I arrived thinking it would be about a 30 minute wait (arrived at 11AM). Check it and find out there were 109 people in front of me with an estimated wait time of 168 minutes. I was close to home so I was able to just go home and then go back and check right in. I did, however, feel sorry for those that did not have the option of leaving and then going back.

Recommendation to anyone coming from out-of-state, fill out the check-in online and get your wait time, they will send you text messages (and you can check by returning a text) for waiting time and when you need to be there. Good luck.

Wife did the Spring mega center text message thing to renew her license yesterday. Said it was the best experience she ever had with the DMV. Sounds like the way to go.

Recently Went to the Rosenberg Office for change of address in my DL and it was super quick and fast on a Friday morning. I was mentally prepared for a 2+ hours wait time. I like the new text message notification. I did not do an appointment before hand.

Ah yes, the wonderful Texas Department of Public Safety Driver License office. A line from a famous movie makes me think of DPS DL office:

Welcome to any government run agency.

You should try to sign up for Obamocare and see first hand how wonderful any government run system is.
