Hi there!

I'm actually from just south of Pearland, but have lived away for quite some time. Hubs *potentially* has a job in Baytown. It's all kind of moving fast (the process was a bit of a surprise) and chances are pretty decent.

Having said that, we would look to purchase a long-term home upon the move. We're looking for something around $200k, not opposed to renovating in a good area (at a lower price), and don't want to be in the middle of the city. We're fans of farther neighbors and big yards.

We are currently a family of three, not party animals, and we have three dogs. We would need space outside since we like outdoor living and out dogs aren't exactly chihuahuas... Plus, our son needs play space.

I was looking at homes in Deer Park (since it seems the commute is around 15 minutes or so). Any advice on safe cities/areas/neighborhoods in, around, or near Baytown is appreciated. As well as areas to avoid.

I'm a teacher, but not sure if I'll go back to teaching next year. I've taken this year off to be with our baby.

Have you looked up in the Crosby area?

It's something you may consider.

Deer Park should fit what you are looking for just fine without having to make a longer commute.

The Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill area is by far the closest to Baytown that offers a quiet small town with large yards but your budget may be a little difficult for that area…most homes in that area (aside from new construction on small lots) will run at least $250,000 and require at least some updates.
Crosby and Dayton would also fall into what you're looking for and are a little further from Baytown but do offer (in general) lower prices, and larger amounts of land.
You may also be interested in Highlands, just as close to Baytown as Mont Belvieu/Barbers Hill, but the lots are smaller and the homes are (in general older). The one upside to Highlands is it's closer to Houston if you would like proximity to downtown as well as Baytown.
Commute wise aside from general rush hour tie ups are not bad from any of the cities it just depends.
School wise, Mont Belvieu, Crosby, & highlands are better (and Deer Park like you were looking at is better as well).
