Hello,

I've recently moved to Houston but not familiar with the area. Since we don't have family in town, we were thinking of heading out of Houston for a short vacation in Texas for the Christmas holiday.

Would love to go to a place where there plenty of kids activities (kids are middle/high school ages). We also have girls in the same age group.

I would appreciate some ideas....interested in areas outside of Houston (max 200 miles of driving) where families typically like to head out in the winter break.

We looked into going to South Padre Island or Corpus Christi but don't want to go to the beach since kids may not be able to swim in the water (if the temps fall).

Any ideas? Would greatly appreciate it.

Default Fredericksburg

Check out Fredericksburg, it is within driving distance of Houston, but you'd probably want to stay in the area.

We went to South Padre this time last year. We had a couple of nice days to hang out on the beach (I think the kids went in the water, but it was really cold). It rained a bit, was chilly a lot. So not the usual beach vacation. But it was really nice. Very quiet. There's a great bird sanctuary, and there's a Schlitterbahn. You could ride bikes all over the island. For a few days, I think you'd find enough to do. If you enjoy being outside.

If you go to Galveston you can swim in the heated pool at the San Luis Hotel & also go to the Schlitterbahn indoor water park.
Great shopping, restaurants, fishing, duck boat tour, historic home tours & museums.

A dude ranch would be fun but it is 5 hours to Bandera, TX.

Fiesta Texas in San Antonio has their Holiday in the Park going on for the next couple of weeks. We might be going since we have season passes, but we've gone years ago and the kids had fun. They have several holiday themed shows and events along with most of the non water related rides working.
