I've tried craigslist but nothing but scammers. I think the CL shoppers here are looking for cheap stuff and unfortunately mine is high end. I paid $3500 for this couch 2 years ago and i just reupholstered it. Tying to get half what i paid.

If you paid $3500 for it just two years ago and already had to re-upholstered it..that means that you really didn't like it that much and felt that re-upholstering it was justified....OR...it means that its really not high end and you just overpaid for a cheap couch...Not all CL users are scammers...I think that would be your best bet for a quick sale. unless you have a garage sale and chop the price waaaay down.

Used furniture is a tough sale. Reupholstering it after two years??? If you get 1k, your lucky.

Unfortunately I don't think you'll get very much at all for it, regardless of how much you paid. If you get $200, consider yourself lucky. People who can afford expensive couches don't buy them on Craigslist.

If you can find a high-end consignment shop that takes furniture, you might be able to make out a little better.

Selling on CL itself isn't impossible. I sold a telephoto lens on CL a couple months ago and got ~80 percent of what I paid for it nearly three years before, but sifted through a lot of scammers and tire-kickers in the process. ("No, I won't be accepting your fake Paypal payment to ship to Nigeria, sorry, try someone else!)

Like Oildog said, People get sketched on the idea of used furniture, clothes, bedding etc. - anything people wear, lay or sit on. Other people's sweat, skin mites etc. It's not to say it won't sell, but your buyers will be people priced out of the market for a new couch and will be looking for a bargain. $1600 will go a long way at the thrift shop.

Why not donate it and claim the reasonable value as a write-off?

This is what I do. You don't get your money back so take the write off. As jfre said if I'm spending 1600, I'm getting new stuff even if its cheaper.

If it's not selling on CL you are asking too much. Donating isn't all that helpful and only if you itemize on your income taxes.

I would never pay more than $1200 for a NEW couch, and one I really like and plan to keep for at least 10 years at that.

If it's a special high brand that people know and look after, you might get better luck at EBAY.

I use craigslist. But like others have said...price is too high. I understand you paid a lot for it. But people on CL are looking for cheap bargains. If i was going to spend that much on a couch, I would buy new...Not used. Maybe try lowering your price and cut your losses.
