My husband recently was promoted so we are moving from CA to Sugar Land. YAY! But there is a possibility that he may be transferred to Humble in the future. Is that a ridiculous commute? We have young children so schools are very important to us. Any other suggestions for places to live? Thanks!

Sugarland is a much nicer place to live than Humble, but I would definitely look into living closer to Humble if that's where he's going to work. Yes, that would be a hellish commute no matter what route you take.

Check out Kingwood. Much closer. I would never live in Humble itself, but that's me. Kingwood is in the Humble Independent School District. I'm not sure how good or bad an ISD it is. Probably not as good as Sugarland.

Then again, you said it's only a chance that he would be transferred there, so try renting in Sugarland until you know for sure.

Rent in Sugarland for now, and if he is transferred to Humble, then look in Kingwood or Atascocita, which are both neighbors to Humble. They're both nicer areas and have better schools than Humble. I live in Atascocita myself and I really like it here (moved here from NY 2 years ago).

That is not a commute any sane person would want to do on a regular basis.

That would be a terrible commute going from the southwest part of town all the way to the northeast. It would take about two hours one way at peak times. Beltway 8 jams up at all the major freeway junctions at rush hour Going through the heart of downtown on 59 just at rush hour would also be a nightmare. As others have said, the schools in Kingwood, which is just north of Atascocita and Humble, are very good. The schools in the rest of Humble ISD are not as good. Atascocita High is respectable, and some of the elementary schools in Atascocita, especially in Eagle Springs, are highly rated. Avoid areas zoned to Humble High School.

this is correct .. I've made the drive about 3 times now due to work, and its taken about 1.5 - 2 hours.

If schools are important and you want a community similar to Sugar Land, check out Kingwood or The Woodlands.

In my opinion, Sugar Land is an amazing place to live, many people take advantage of the great infrastructure in Sugar Land which takes you to all parts of Houston. If you want your kids to go to the best schools, then Sugar Land is a good option. Sugar Land-Humble is only 45-50 minutes tentatively, so it may usually go even faster on some days. If it was me, I would stay in Sugar Land.

Do you get a commission off every person that moves to Sugar Land or something? SL to Humble is a 45 minute drive with no traffic, so that is not accurate at all as to what they would face in a normal commute. Claiming that SL has the best schools is also not backed up by any type of subjective ranking.

LMAO! Sugar Land to Humble would be a nightmare. Goodness! Y'all may as well live in The Woodlands and he gets a job in Galveston. It's that ridiculous of a commute.

Rent until he's stable.
