You make the key point, and most people are (sadly) not paying attention. If you had 20 country acts, my wife (who loves country) would pick one and go. But my son & DIL probably wouldn't. But include a pop act or two or three, and they will go. Include Tejano, Zydeco, R&B, Rap, etc, and now you have 20 sellouts.

It's Rodeo Houston not Rodeo Nashville.

You don't want MOST of the music to be any one style. You want a broad mix, older country, young country, pop, rock, rap, etc. THAT'S how you bring two million people to a rodeo.

For example, I don't like seeing traditionally black areas of Houston gentrifying into yuppie townhomes. Why? Because an important part of our history is quickly becoming a page in a book. We'll never be able to go back and talk to those residents because they've had to move on, the brick and mortar of Houston's black history is literally disappearing. That's sad.

When we dilute culture for the sake of diversity it's a slippery slope. Diversity is important but so is tradition. It's not like the Rodeo is a KKK convention, it's simply a historically country venue that's becoming less country every year. And that's sad too.
But who says that having a country lineup is historically accurate? I'm pretty sure that when the rodeo first started in 1931 that people weren't just playing country music.

The first entertainer was in 1942 and it was gene autry. First attendance record was broken in 1970 by Elvis.

Well, there you have it. So the rodeo has indeed been corny for a very long time. I guess I stand corrected.

Over amplified, echoing, way to loud.
Last year the HLSR via LD Systems rolled out the largest L-Acoustics K1 sound system in the world, the audio quality is phenomenal given the size and shape of the venue and it's easily on par quality wise with any other concert venue in the country.

Because that demographic will practically fill the venue for every night there's a show and the organizers/security team don't have to worry about the issues caused by catering to other demographics. The HLSR is 100% about making as much money as they can in a given amount of time with the lowest amount of risk.

Sounded crappy last year too. Would rather hear music at Toyota center.

Just like most of the artists that are on the lineup this year.

The Houston Rodeo has done this long enough, they know what packs the venue and they know which acts they can afford to bring in when compared to who will sell the venue out reasonably easy.

The Toyota Center has a max capacity of about 18K people, NRG Stadium is around 80K people... that's a huge difference in venue size. The rodeo itself would never fit in a place as small as the Toyota Center, that doesn't even take the rest of the facility needs into account.

Given the size of the venue they've done amazing things with sound quality, ask any live sound professional and they'll tell you.
