Whether you love Houston or hate it, you're bound to have a few or many things you take for granted about the city. If you moved away, what would you miss the most. The things we list might be things for newcomers to check out. For me personally, I'd miss my Tex-Mex and Mexican food. I know this because I miss it when I travel away on vacation and it's the first place I go when I return.

Tex-Mex, the heat, and the culture.

I can make my own Mexican food for the most part. I can make Texas chili. The thing of it is about food is that every place and region has their own treat that I'll often enjoy and want more of. Most of this thread will be about food. I'm interested to see what else gets talked about. I don't miss the 40 pounds I've lost since leaving.

I miss some friends and family. Actually, a lot of them. They're far more important than food.

I don't miss swatting mosquitoes in January.

It'll all still be there when I come back. The polar ice caps aren't going to melt that fast.

no state income tax. No Intangible tax.because if I'm leaving Houston I'm leaving Texas

I would say family, but they are already starting to leave. I would say friends, but where I would move to, they'd come visit all the time

I left Houston for Denver last spring, so I've had some time to think this over. Really, only things I miss are my friends and the weather from October to March.
There are lots of things I don't miss, however!

Man, if I have to pick one thing, it would have to be the low cost of housing in the burbs.

No, that wasn't sarcasm.

I just can't think of any other place where I could live in the house I live in on the water for what I pay and be within 35 minutes, from my driveway, to the downtown streets of a major city (no, not during rush hour).

Now moving to a list of things I like about Houston:
The warm weather
The food
The arts
The people

As a former resident of 30 years, who has since left about 5 years ago, the only thing I really miss besides some of my family still there, is the arts scene. In particular the theater. Houston has great productions, some of the best outside of New York really. I still come back occaisionally to catch one.

Other than that there's not much I miss. There are places that hold great old memories, but from traffic to other hassles, every time i come back I am reminded more and more how much I would never consider coming back other than to visit family or catch a show.

Houston does have a solid arts scene and some good museums. Not the best, but you're certainly not going to find better in the region.

It is kind of nice to be somewhat close to New Orleans, but that doesn't really qualify as something to miss about Houston. Pascagoula, Mississippi is kind of close to New Orleans too, and on the Gulf to boot.

I'd miss friends and family, that's slways first but that's not really a houston thing - they'd be the same in any city if that's where they were. So that is why I went with Texmex and mexican food. Congrats by the way on the 40 lb loss.
