A friend of mine mentioned that the food culture in Texas is very meat centered. Is that true? Are there good vegetarian options in Houston for someone who likes eating out?

Houston is a paradise for fooddies in general. There are multiple options available for vegetarians also.It offers ethnic cuisines from various countries. Asian food in general and indian food predominantly tends to be vegetarian. We have multiples of those restaurants here.

Thank you. I know the public transport is not great but if I am hungry in the middle of the night, can I order a vegetarian pizza? I would imagine the Italian restaurants will be open at least until 1:00 am in such a big city?

I don't think there are traditional restaurants to open that late, but there are most certainly food joints open that late. Some food establishment prey on the after the bar/club late night munchies, so they are open until 4am in the morning. I strongly believe find food in Houston will be the least of your worries.

That's good to know. I am not a fan of chain restaurants though. I like ethnic food. May be it's possible to order Chinese food around midnight? Also, with such hot summers I bet there will be plenty of options for ice cream.

Also, the grocery store is a big issue for me. Back in the days, when I lived down south, they had Publix. I did not like Publix very much since they had no options in their hot food bar for vegetarians. It was mostly meat and potatoes which does not appeal to me that much.
