If you have a family, (wife & kids) then you can justify doing the crazy commute. When I was at UTMB there were two female students in my class who commuted from Katy throughout the program. They had kids & were older. If you are single, rent an apt down there.
What are your reasons for the commute? If you lived closer like in Clearlake, the commute would be better but woodlands? No.

Just thinking about that commute makes my head hurt. I am with virtually everyone else who says to move within a reasonable distance to UTMB assuming you have no family considerations. You certainly don't have to live on the Island.

When my husband (then my boyfriend) was applying to Med School, he moved from Houston to Seabrook because he figured he would probably end up at UTMB. He spent 6 months commuting between Seabrook and the Med Center where we both worked. Then, he got into Baylor and ended up moving back to Montrose. Why he spent 6 unnecessary months in Seabrook, I have no idea.

I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a spoon than have to make that commute.

Only if you have a wealthy friend willing to let you use his/her private jet.

Since there is no public transportation I would agree with all of the above. Move

I went to UTMB and was from The Woodlands. I lived in the dorm. Cheap and convenient. The gas alone is going to be expensive (not as much as before with today's prices). If you need to study you really limit yourself when it comes to study groups, and using the library.
