If you have a method that will allow 35 people to refine the 830,000 barrels a day that it can bring to the Gulf Coast, would you mind sharing that with me? I would love to be rich beyond my wildest dreams.

LyondellBasell runs 268,000 barrels a day at their Houston facility. - LyondellBasell - About Us

They employee 1,300 people at that facility - http://www.lyondellbasell.com/NR/rdo...onRefining.pdf

And, you are telling us that it would only require 35 people to process 830,000 barrels a day - http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...85464276,d.aWw

Like I said, please share your technology, I'll even cut you in for a hundred million or so.

If I could rep you more than once I would! Do you work there, or did you pick Lyindell Basell at random?

I had a friend that used to work there. When this whole 35 jobs nonsense popped up, I asked him how many barrels they ran. He told me over 200,000. When I asked how many people worked there, he said "at least 1,000". I jumped on the interwebs and it took me about 2 minutes to find how many barrels they processed and how many people they employed to do it. Then I looked up to see how many barrels Keystone would move to the Gulf Coast. I also looked at a couple of other facilities and found that it was around 500 employees per 100,000 barrels refined.

Simple math tells us that if Keystone ran half it's capacity, it would result in somewhere around 2,000 DIRECT jobs. Of course, 2,000 people have to eat, go to the dentist, buy clothes, live somewhere, etc. etc. which results in additional indirect jobs.

The rumor I heard is that enough people took the BP buy-out to prevent layoffs at this time. Just what I heard though.

Hussein said 35 jobs then it must be true. Our POTUS would never lie to us.

False. Some took it, some left for other operators, some got the pink slip with a severance.

Another 830,000 barrels coming into the refineries from Canada is great if your downstream but not so great if your upstream and already dealing with oversupply driving down prices.

Buyout (or Voluntary separation Incentive) is phase 1.

If prices keep falling or they need to make a number, another type of severance takes place. Good luck to middle managers and those over 40 making decent $$$.

Let me explain why it's only 35 jobs:

There is a path from Canada to Houston anyway. The southern portion of Keystone was already completed. They are just talking about a shortcut from Montana down to KS if I remember correctly. So instead of a "7" shape the pipeline will be a "\" shape. In other words, much ado about nothing. I think the 35 jobs was to maintain the northern portion of the pipeline. The extra jobs have already been created in Port Arthur, the destination of the Keystone pipeline and yes it was more than 35 jobs. Those jobs were created when the southern portion of the Keystone opened a few years ago. So the 35 jobs is correct, that's all you get from the northern portion. The southern portion was more important than the northern portion, because there was no way to transport oil from Cushing to Port Arthur only the other way. Now it can flow both ways. The northern portion already existed, they just want a shortcut.
