According to my quick research the houston symphony has 286 concerts and 300,000 spectators per year. Texans have ten games and 700,000 spectators per year including pre season.

Yeah, pretty sure only Harris County will care. That's why I posted this in the Houston forum.

Screw up? Houston usually is not in the running for Super Bowls, as it's not a big party/entertainment city like NOLA or Miami. That's why they get SB's all the time, and we don't. But we actually did a great job with our 2004 SB. It was one of the best run, best organized ever. So as a reward (or is it punishment?), we got another one.

Screw up? Always a possibility, but in general, Houston tends to do really well hosting big events. NCAA, SB, All-Star games, OTC, etc.

But hey, you a hater, haters gonna hate.

Let's say you are right.... go ahead and tell us how the average Houston taxpayer will benefit from the Super Bowl being held in Houston.

Its time to pass a national law to stop the NFL/MLB/NBA extortions.

Okay, the Super Bowl was awarded Houston. The Super Bowl is in 2017 and so in theory the NFL could assign the Super Bowl to another city and they would be able to plan for it.

What Houston probably needs to do is to have some kind of dog & pony show, like meetings and stuff showing that it is committed. Make the $5 million improvements to WiFi but make it take like 6 months. Then have more meetings and committees and delay until about March of 2016. By that time, it will be too late for the NFL to re-assign the Super Bowl to another city (for the city to effectively pull it off) and Houston is off the hook for its improvements.

Now the only thing is Houston would never be able to bid for another Super Bowl, but if Houston/Harris County wants to get out of this, this is the way.

I would like to see some facts about this statement.

There is a certain prestige that comes along with hosting super bowls and final fours, etc.
The city will no doubt gain something as a whole by hosting these events. If you think lifting the profile of the city is worth the money spent is up to you to decide.

I should have been more specific. All pro football games, all symphony concerts.

Just go back and read the minutes of the commissioners court. It's all there. was in the Chronicle, too.

Prestige?
Is that gonna make us more prestigious than Chicago and Boston?

Based on your logic Miami and New Orleans are the most prestigious cities in the Country

That's not at all what I said. You said "Houston will screw it up", and I replied that we have a pretty good track record of hosting big events.

Didn't say I was in favor of it, or against it. Just said we typically host them well.

If you are going to rant against me, at least let it be for something I said.
