When I rent a car in Houston (which isn't very often) or stay at a hotel in town (which is a few times a year), I pay those taxes.

Local issue?
When it comes to protecting tax payers it's a local issue
when it comes to protecting NFL's profit it's a federal issue (their tax exemption that defines them as being a non-profit organization)

What do federal tax exemptions have to do either with then initial funding or this $50 million?

The last I checked, local funding paid for 61% of the initial build and the indications are that the funding for this $50 million might have local funding targeted as well.

Guys guys, there's plenty of shenanigans in this situation to where we don't need to get caught up in details. Can't we just agree that the millionaire/billionaire owners should foot the bill for any expansion to our now decrepit stadium? (LOL)

Also, I think it's safe to say that most people would agree the NFL really shouldn't be a nonprofit. If there's one redeeming element to this, it's that at least the teams aren't, just the league. I need to start a nonprofit... Maybe I can do enough good works for society to put my kids through college

I'm guessing that 99% of Americans agree with this
The other 1% that disagree most be politicians plus people that are extremely naive.

I hope they don't put it up to a vote for the public it may not get approved. The owners can pay for it themselves if it was left up to me. Though i think they should have paid for the stadium themselves in the first place.

I might cut them a deal if they pay to have the astrodome tore down and the bonds paid off.
