Same can be said about many on this forum regarding the suburbs. The axe grinds both ways.

Default Thank you!

I appreciate the great advice. We are not "live in the city" people but we love the idea of living near a big city for restaurants, theatre, museums, sports, etc. We don't need/want a large house but we would like a large yard (although that might change after mowing the lawn in August!). We will certainly check out all the suggestions offered.

I think you would enjoy clear lake. Away from the heart of the city but lots of restaurants and outdoor stuff if you like boating. Lots of runners and bicyclists as well. Kind of a casual vibe.

Don't let that be a deterrent! Lawn services are plentiful and cheap!

Thats why you buy a large riding mower and not a push.

Or you do a push mower to help you stay fit by doing manual chores and move about a bit. .

What is everyone's thoughts on the Friendswood or Alvin area?? Seems a reasonable distance to Webster and by traveling off hours, not a ridiculous jaunt to IAH. THANKS!

They'd certainly be doable. Alvin is quite a bit more rural, but if you're into that kind if thing---

Friendswood has parts that are right next to Webster & League City (even Alvin).

I advise against Alvin. I grew up there, not a fan.

It is a drive to do almost ANYTHING. There are not really any good restaurants there (30 minute drive), there is a TINY HEB, a small Kroger, and then a huge Walmart (ugh) for groceries unless you want to drive 30 minutes away. There is no zoning in Alvin, you can have a lovely place and then the place right next to you be a complete dump.

Yes, you can have a yard, but that is the ONLY positive I can see to living in Alvin.

Oh and to add, with all the lights and some added traffic- depending on where you live in Alvin (especially if you want more in the country part of it)- can easily take 40-45 minutes to get to Webster/Clear Lake at times. It used to be a steady 30 for the most part but that is slipping away.

Friendswood is great long as you can afford to live on the Galveston county side. The harris county side is ghetto. Alvin? no way.
