We are having to replace our fence, and I was wondering what the cost might be for a regular 6 ft privacy fence. I am getting three estimates, but I just want to make sure we aren't being overcharged.

Anything we should ask the different companies.

Any tips?

Before we sold hour home in Katy, I think we were quoted about $15 per linear foot. Is that about what you were quoted? Because of the principal of it, I went and purchased the materials myself and did it, it was a whole lot less, but looking back, I should have just hired it out, I had better things to do with my time than bust out posts, etc.... plus I had to knock out a nest of yellow jackets where the two fences met.

Get several estimates. I wouldn't reuse the posts even if they look good. Usually starts leaning after a few years then you have a good fence with old leaning posts. If you share with neighbors talk to them to see if they will share cost. Depends on how large your yard is. I forgot what we paid per square food. I'll look tonight to de if I can find sq foot cost. Don't have a huge yard and it was about $3-3.5k for cedar. Only one neighbor helped and split the cost on his side. The other two didn't contribute. I like cedar better than treated although cedar costs more. Cedar doesn't warp like treated does over time.

Default Cedar...

I agree about cedar, don't buy the pine, it is cheap and heavy and very likely to topple over during severe wind storms, or hurricanes. Cedar is light, weathers better, it does not turn into a banana after a few months in the sun like the knotted pine does.

Cedar 8' fence with cap and molding....6x6x10 treated posts 8' on center with concrete was $15/ft.....hauled away the old as well. My yard is big though, and I did 600 linear feet.

Here is another idea for anybody easy to install you could install metal fence sections you can easily install 60ft to 100 ft run in a day with 3 people doing the work. About 3 yrs ago my dad and I installed 3 section about 12 to 15 ft run between the driveway and back yard right next to the garage. If we you have installed a wooden fence it would have taken 1 1/2 day to do it 3 metal fence sections took 90min

Anyone have any referrals? I have been getting quoted $18-$20 a lf using cedar. This includes a regular gate and a larger gate so I can back stuff into my back yard. I have around 100 lf.

I am interested in a different type of fence on my other side.

One quote was $19 per square foot for pine six foot fence. They kept telling me pine was the way to go...

No gate.

I'm waiting for two other quotes.

You have been tremendously helpful! I just love CD!

Thanks!

We've never had to put up a fence before, as the ones we've had have been great. The fence we do have has been there for twenty years.

Ha! They must have a huge stockpile of pine pickets somewhere!

The first Google hit I found echoes my sentiments...
