To be a volunteer with children you have to go through the vetting process/background check. It might take a little longer if you're from overseas since they won't really have anything to vet and may have to vet overseas.
Texas Children's Hospital might be a good choice. They have a lot of international patients and might even need the language skills.

If she likes animals, they would probably welcome her at an animal shelter. They're always looking for volunteers to walk dogs, feed them, help with adoptions, etc.
