I was a mosquito magnet when I lived in Houston.

I don't like body bug sprays so I used Skin So Soft and it worked like a charm. Looks like SSS now makes a bug repellent spray...I would certainly try this on your children.

Mosquitoes are relatively weak fliers, so placing a large fan on your deck can provide a low-tech solution. It will also cool you off a bit.

Well, you have a car, right? Why don't you drive down to the store and buy the value pack of mosquito repellent? I buy lots of 'em. Put 'em my beach bag, in my cars, and around the house. Also, I throw one in the hurricane preparedness box. You'll be dreadful without 'em after the hurricane.

Just buy Bounce fabric softener sheet....soak it in some water and rub on your body. At least it smells better than Deep Woods.

Wish we could build a huge giant fan and blow the all the rain to California...

For going outside: OFF.

For bites: AfterBite & Benadryl Itch Cream. Or the good ol fashioned Hydrogen Peroxide should help...

Gold Bond Max Strength is my go to for the bites after the fact and I put a band aid over the worst ones before bed, that way the covers don't touch the bites and start to make them itch during the night.

As for getting rid of them to begin with I have yet to find something that really works, I so wish we could sit on the patio on an evening and enjoy a glass of wine but I don't think it will ever happen...

For me, Tiger Balm is great for bites. The sooner it's applied onto the bite, the better it is. It has the same scent as Eucalypses oil which can be used as a repellent as well. Add water to a spray bottle and add a few drops of Eucalypses oil into the bottle. Shake and spray over the skin to keep mosquitoes away. The only downside to this DIY solution is that it's only good for about a couple of hours only.
