You have to shop around. The company that may have great rates one year, may not the next - - which may be due to claims, growth goals, or who-knows-what.... Over several years we had to drop USAA due to uncompetitive rates, Travelers was great until they got high, and now we are with AMICA. They count on people continuing to roll coverage, and loyalty does not buy you much.

I did not know those exist in TX.. I thought all houses here are built from wood with bricks used just as a siding.

Did you build it yourself or have you bought it from developer?
Yes, whole brick (not brick veneers) homes do exist in Houston. Our home is among one.

What is most competitive for Fort Bend County these days? Amica and Ameriprise? What is competitive 2015 homeowners policy premium in terms of % of home value? Can you get close to 0.5% ($2000 for $400k house) or is that a pipe dream these days?

Honestly depends on the year built and credit. Just did a new construction house with 575k in coverage for $1700 per year.

ASI. Progressive's home insurance carrier. They only offer insurance in Harris county if they home is newer than 2000 build. A Rated HO-3 policy, 100% replacement cost. I can pm you my agents info if you want it.

I shop ours every few years. Rates vary greatly depending on zip code. I have found Allstate and Amica to be consistently the lowest in the areas I've lived in Houston, and by quite a bit. We're currently with Allstate and have had no problems.

Have you been with them a long time? As far as I know they only offer insurance for homes newer than 2000 in Harris or Fort Bend county. What county are you in?
