Hi my boyfriend and I are moving to Houston over the summer, he got hired at Spring Branch school district. I am currently looking for an entry level Geology job in the area. I know the oil and gas industry is down right now, but I'll consider any job suggestions just to get my foot in the door somewhere! Thank you for your input!

Do you have a Masters degree? Most companies will only hire on people and give them a 'Geologist' title if they have a degree in geology of course, but must also have a Masters degree in it. It is a very tough time, but some companies are hiring, you need to have come from another oil company. They are always picky, even in good times, but there are a lot of others who have been laid of recently competing for the same jobs, most will get in only on referrals. Good luck.

I have been seeing that for the oil industry a Masters degree is usually required. I am going to go get my masters degree after I get some experience in the work force. I'm not opposed to working for the environmental side of things, it doesn't have to be in energy.

You might try getting a job as a geo tech until you get your Masters.
