ignore the knock?

Hide while stroking your weapon?

Answer the door?

Does the answer differ based on your environment?

Is this appreciated anywhere?

Edit... Looking for money means evening sales and donations to a cause.

Unless you WANT to give them money - ignore the knock. What else??

I shout through the door "can I help you." When the sales pitch starts I say " no thanks." I never open the door to people I don't know. Day or night, but I make sure they know I'm there. They hear me just fine.

If you do decide to ignore the knock, at least make a show of being home. If it's someone casing your house, ignoring the knock and the house looking empty might invite some unwelcome company.

I mostly get Religious groups, cable/internet, and electric provider solicitations as well. All the others still call my landline.......

What do I do?, tell them I have contracts or I may just see them in church. ..

Usually I look out a second story window to see who it is. I may yell to them.

If I can't see them I don't answer.

I have a huge, tacky no solicitors sign on my door and they still ignore it. When I yell to them to read the sign, they say they are not solicitors. Do they really think I'm going to change my mind just because they are knocking? Since I have this huge sign on my door and they ignore it, they are considered trespassing and I can call the police.

I also have a sign that says we don't answer to anybody we weren't expecting. I have heard people (that I DID call) reading it out loud as I approach the door. Even heard the cops read it once. Unfortunately they had come to announce a death and notify next of kin, but I certainly opened the door for the police. I am about to put up a wireless camera for the door.

I ignore knocks from strangers when its dark out. They tend to give up quickly and leave.

You shouldn't ignore it. Make sure they know someone is home. If you ignore it you might have someone kicking in your door thinking no one is home.
