I retire from the Marine Corps within the year & will be moving in with an old war buddy in Bay City while I decompress from 20 years in the military & figure out what I'll do now that I'll be a civilian.

I'm born & raised in Northern California & have been fortunate enough to have spent the majority of my career in Southern California.

I have family & friends from all over the U.S. & have visited many places but I've never spent any time in south Texas. My time in Texas has been in El Paso & Plano, just outside of Dallas.

I've searched these forums & online but I haven't found much up to date information on what Bay City is like. Any & all information would be appreciated.

Thanks, I knew about the steel mill as my buddy is the project manager doing the construction. I didn't know about the nuclear plant though.

Does anyone know the vibe or feel of the town? How are the people & amenities, etc?

Not much to do... its a worn down coastal type town. Most people are there because of jobs or their families are there.

Duck and Goose hunting, fishing, golf and watching the grass grow would be your preferred activities in Bay City. It is very sleepy.

Bay City doesn't have many amenities in town. Maybe a 25 minute drive to the coast. The courthouse square is somewhat appealing (thought the courthouse itself is nothing special). Limited retail and restaurants, but the town is trying hard to improve that. Otherwise, it's very rural in all directions once you leave town.

It seems like the same theme is being repeated here, quite & not much to do in Bay City; that's probably why I'm not finding much information on the net about this town.
