2354 County Road 59, Manvel TX 77578 - HAR.com

Does anyone know the history behind this "house"? Saw it on a friend's FB wall and everyone is wondering.

It looks very institutional. I found a swamplot article and one of the comments was a guess that it was supposed to be a rehab facility.

ETA: Never mind - found more info: http://www.loopnet.com/Listing/18885...-59-Manvel-TX/

Its called "The Ugliest & Weirdest Looking 60,000 Square Foot Mega Mansion EVER!"
Someone was planning to start a harem but as it turns out no woman open-minded enough to be up for polyamory was willing to live in Manvel, TX.
This brick home was built in 2001 and is situated on over 10 acres of land. It has been sitting unfinished for YEARS and is currently under foreclosure. It’s basically like a generic brick home on the front facade with a MASSIVE rectangular building attached in the back.

Here's the scoop:

Inside Pearland's Mystery Mansion | Houston Press

Quote:
According to public records, both houses were once owned by a pediatrician, Dr. Ulysses W. Watkins (who won a Houston Press Best of Houston award for his radio show on 1430 AM in 2008). He built the larger of the two houses first, but it was never completed. A vast, broad scar on the west side of the house is missing brick from where the two-story wall was never finished; the unused brick lays in the pasture behind the house. Three of the nine garage doors are plywood. The front door is awkwardly hung, ill-fitting and has no handles; it's most likely a stop-gap until a real door can be installed. And while there is a side driveway, no front drive or sidewalk of any kind was ever built.
Dr. Watkins was the founder of the Family Care Medical Clinic.
I recall something about his intending to have a patient facility in the house at one point.

Some pictures of the inside from a while ago.

Good luck selling that thing. Guess it could be a rehab facility or halfway house.
