You know I was kidding about south Florida never being flooded right? Houston should build canals like Miami has so when there is a large amount of rain it collects and runs into the ocean. You are the 4th. largest city in the US.
Infrastructure? Oh wait! it's Texas!

Are you kidding and then rebutting at the same time? The canals haven't and can't solve Miami's flooding issue

Infrastructure? The bayou system certainly has been improved, and it does handle water much better.

It seems like the Floridians on here are quick to jump on the one or two times this type of mass flooding here happens per decade, trying to use it to say it's drainage system is faulty and how florida's is so much better. Not being in my feelings about it but it's funny to me.

Anyone out there wanting to make an educated calculation?
The weather guy on channel 2 said it was calculated at 162 Billlion gallons of water! Yeah, that won't recede anytime soon in any city. 162 Billion!

Are those places all third world countries? I can't think of one city that is "flooding" after 2 inches of rain.

I'm just glad that schools were closed today and work was more flexible. We would have to get pass the water creek and Braes Bayou to get them to school and our neighbors said it was impossible to get through as it's too deep and will swallow up your car. By 2 PM, I drove on South Post Oak bridge and saw that Braeswood Blvd was still under water with several cars still submerged.

Texas really can't spend on better infrastructure or ask for federal assistance because then the state will lose its freedoms..or something along those lines..

Difference is flooding in South Florida doesn't last for days or damage homes! That only happens in hurricanes. South Florida has a excellent system of canals to drain off the daily torrential thunderstorms during the summer. Houston doesn't and I would say that has more to do with your conservative State Government not wanting to "waste" money on infrastructure spending.

Florida also has lots of limestone and sand to drink up the rainwater.
