That's how I feel. I'm a Houstonian so I support the Texans but any Texas team that advances in the playoffs, then I'll support that team.

Normally, that is how I am. I'm a UT grad who roots for A&M when Texas doesn't play them. The same goes with UH, Rice, TCU, Tech, Baylor, etc. etc. I'll cheer for the Mavericks and Spurs when they don't play Houston. Heck, I cheer for the Saints because they are our neighbor in LA.

However, I can never root for the Cowboys due to putting up with their fans in the 70's and 90's when they seemed to go out of their way to disparage Houston football whenever they could. If anybody hung around with any Dallas fans following the Oilers loss to the Bills back in 93, you'll know just what I'm talking about.

I always pull for whoever is playing the Cowboys, and I always will. That is how bitter their fans made me.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of obnoxious fans to go around, I don't think any one team has a monopoly on them. A Cowboys fan was beaten unconscious after a Raiders game and I am sure there are more instances with other teams. I know it is not football but there was that poor Giants fan who was beaten within an inch of his life by Dodger fans and will never be the same again. I have seen fans at a couple of Texan games who's behavior wasn't the best shall we say, and personally I am not particularly fond of the Eagles or Cardinals fans. But they are the fans, not the team and when all is said and done, it's a GAME, not the end of the world.

You must not be a football fan.
Or maybe I just don't hang out with mouth breathers? Who in their right mind would cheer for another in-state team otherwise? I'm not talking about wishing injury on all their players. I don't really care either way with the Cowboys. I just don't know a single person from here that considers the Cowboys to be "their team", which is what I took the OP question to mean.

^^^ I find this weird, strange, and quite odd. If the Texans don't win, I want all other Texas teams to fail miserably, they are in-state rivals and I want them to fail and be humiliated.

Not from Houston but am from Texas and of course a huge Cowboy fan. I don't hate the Texans one bit. I don't think most Cowboy fans look at the Texans as a rival. To us as Cowboy fans, the only teams that we consider rivals are of course are divisional opponents plus Green Bay and San Francisco. Outside of the conference, it's Pittsburgh. That's it. Most Cowboy fans I know in Texas root for the Texans or adopt them as their AFC Team.

^^^^^ Yes most Cowboy fans feel they are too good to even consider the Texans a rival. Even though the Cowboys haven't done anything in over 2 decades. Cowboys fans are living in the past. A lot of younger kids don't even remember when the Cowboys were good, they know Emmitt Smith from Dancing with the Stars, and Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin from announcing.

That's not it. Most Cowboy fans don't consider the Texans a rival because they aren't a rival. Same thing with the Steelers and Eagles. Most eagle and steeler fans I know from Pennsylvania do not consider each other a rival. They play in two different conferences and have other familiar opponents they play far more frequently. Same with the Skins and Ravens in the DC Area which is about 200 miles closer to each other than Dallas and Houston. Heck many of the Skins fans were rooting for the Ravens in the SB three years ago.

Yes we haven't done anything in two decades (not ever because we won our last SB exactly 19 seasons ago). But rivalries don't change. Our most heated is still the Skins, Eagles, Giants, Niners, Packers, and Steelers.

Interstate rivalries are some of the most fierce in sports. I don't understand how you don't accept that.
And Of course rivalries change. When you add new teams to the league, it creates new rivalries.
