Yep. There are Cowboy bars here in DC. One up there in Baltimore. Many in Virginia, North Carolina, etc. As for Texas, even one or two Lombardi's will be hard to replace the Cowboys in the state. But most Cowboy fans I know in Texas root for Houston. I do. I have no dislike for Houston and only root agains them when they play the Cowboys.

I thought it was common sense that pretty much nobody outside of Houston likes the Texans. I just roll my eyes when someone in Texas says they're a Cowboys fan.

I think the Texans organization failed marketing 101 when it comes to branding. Houston's franchise had a clean slate to come up with a mascot and colors that would resonate beyond the state but instead they basically recycled something Dallas didn't even use anymore. The name "Houston Texans" alone limits the possibilities of gaining a large following outside of Texas. Not many people who aren't Texans would buy shirts or support the organization (Especially since texas doesn't have a great reputation outside of the state) Good luck getting New Yorkers, Californians, etc calling themselves "Texans" fans. Throw in the fact that the team has never signed any "personalities" and its pretty much a no brainer why the fanbase is largely confined to the Houston metro.
With that said, the Texans will never have the same following as the Cowboys and Texans fans should first think about limiting the very strong Saints push in Houston and southeast Texas. Love them or hate them, the Cowboys organization has always mastered the art of marketing.

I agree it's not the greatest name. Semantically speaking, "Texans" is a superset that includes "Cowboys" because geographically the "Cowboys" are in Texas. That's dumb.

With me its the "Houston" in the Houston Texans I'm pulling for so the nic name is not really not all that important . But to those who say that the "Texans" moniker limits the teams reach outside of Texas, well how many Yankees fans are there outside of the Northeast ? If the Texans win (which these days seems improbable) they will improve their footprint to areas you would never expect.
As to the topic of the thread. I think it has been proven in this thread that the assumptions made in the OP are erroneous and baseless to say the least. As long as there is a NFL team playing in Houston it will have more fans in Houston than the Cowboys do...

Millions upon Millions of baseball fans outside of the Northeast are Yankee fans. Even in Texas. The Yankees probably have the largest fanbase in MLB. The only franchises that have large followings like the Yankees are the Cubs, Cardinals, Red Sox, Dodgers, and maybe the Braves.
