I'm looking at moving to Katy, Texas, but I keep hearing that the crime rate has really increased since Hurricane Katrina evacuees were relocated to Texas. Is this something that's occurring in pocketed areas, or is this the widespread general consensus? Just asking!!

They're doing their damndest, but I think Katy's safe from the Katrician hoardes. Sugar Land on the other hand...well....not so much (as Borat would say)

Seriously though, they've not made themselves very welcome here. Our crime rate was on a 20 year decline and now the murder rate has shot up 25%. Most of their crime is concentrated on the Southwest side of town around 59 & the Beltway. To put it it simply, these people even make our gang bangers cringe in disgust.

For the most part, the crime is concentrated in a few areas that were problem areas to begin with. Stay clear of those and you'll be ok.

Safest areas of Houston are Far North, Northwest, and West Houston.

Hmm, crime in Sugar Land hasn't really gone up, not sure where you get that idea. And it is incredibly low to begin with, one of the lowest in the Houston area.
The areas of Houston with problems from the evacuees are primarily around southwest Houston, inside the Beltway. It is an area where there are lots of apartment complexes.
