So...
Looking into having a pool built, I have Cody Pools coming out later today to give me an estimate and Platnium Pools on Sunday.

Any experience with these pool builders?

Platnium uses Pebble instead of plaster. Currently they are doing 15% off any pool contract signed by this weekend. The guys said he needs to secure jobs for the off season and it is what it is.

As for ownership of a pool, is it really experience? Chemicals, Cleaning, Pumps & Filters...

No personal experience, but good friends just used Iguana Pools for their new pool (Pebble-tec surface) and were very happy with the company.

I'm sure Cody can build a pool with pebble as well. Most pool companies will offer it as an option.

From my perspective, I think maintaining a pool is easier than a lawn. It is some work but if you understand how pool chemistry works it's not too difficult.

Just did a pool last summer. Pool maintenance is definitely easier than yard....chemical costs about $200/yr. Electrical went up about $20/month and that is with a 2 speed pump and a booster pump.

I had Platinum bid my pool, and they came out, and then after about 3 weeks never bid on it...I called and called and then said forget it...if you cant return my calls when your bidding it then you certainly dont have my trust to build it.

About a month later I got a call from the owner or manager or someone who asked me why I had not chosen them to build the pool, and I told him outright - you never bid the job. About an hour later they bid it, but by that time it was too late. I had already decided I did not trust them....

Might be an isolated incident, but I choose my contractors based on responsiveness....I ended up getting a pool and my builder did a very good job and completed the whole project in a little over 3 weeks. The platinum bid and the builder I chose were about $1100 apart for the same thing. Difference being my builder was EXTREMELY responsive.

Thanks for the info Mark.

Do you recall who was the guy that went out to your home ?

I spoke to Sean from PP and he seems to know his stuff and so far so good.
BJ from Cody also was nice and got me an appointment the next day.

I guess i will have to see how well they respond and how they answer questions, also to me bang for the buck is a big key, but i will not compromise on quality, even if it cost a bit more.

Might be worth it to get a bid from Supreme Pools too.

I've heard good things about Supreme Pools (they built a friend's pool).

Atlantis built my last pool. They're located off of 1488.

I found Atlantis by doing research on Garden Web (Swimming Pools and Spas - GardenWeb). Many people there used him. You'd never know it by looking at him, but the man knows his stuff.

ETA: I haven't been on the forum since we built our pool about five years ago. Not even 1/4 of the way down the page, I found this thread.

I used Platinum in 2004 and we've had no problems with our pool.
