Greenspoint is still pretty bad. Worked a few months in the area and employees were advised by security to not walk around carrying purses, bags, briefcases or even cell phones in a visible manner.

Doesn't make sense. White people are minorities in Houston. If your talking about CD posters not recommending predominantly black neighborhoods...well stats don't lie.

You want to avoid the Fondren and W.Bellfort area...specifically the Greenhouse Patio apartments. I lived there late 90s and suspect it hasn't changed. It was the first time being robbed at gunpoint. I couldn't get my deposit back even after this, so i decided to move anyway.

I would advise everyone to not just walk around with valuables like that no matter where they are in the city just becauase of how Houston is

You know what i meant, stop being hard headed. I didnt say black, i said minorities. As in non whites. Trust me, i do not race bait or try to be slick about what i say. CD posters get freaked out if there is any minorities around and will label the area as bad.

I do agree this forum gives horrible home advice and it is a good amount of racist people on this site against ppl of color. Me being black myself I pick up on the subtle and sometimes blatant racist remarks concerning predominate black or brown areas in Houston. I wasn't coming from that angle in my statements so maybe I could have been more specific in my approach.

Southwest is a huge part of town and I have family members on that side of town and use to reside in the SW. I was basically implying that apartments that the OP were looking for in that price range in Southwest might not be the best fit especially for somebody new into town. Apartment complexes in Greenspoint in that price range I know for a fact without a doubt wouldn't be the best option especially for a newcomer.
