My husband got a job offer in Webster. What are the best areas to live around there? Not sure if we're going to buy or rent. We want to be in a great school district. We have a toddler and a newborn. My husband doesn't want to commute more than 30 minutes. Thanks!

I grew up around that area. While Webster is part of Clear Creek ISD, its schools aren't known for being all that great. Clear Lake City is all around the east side of Webster and is city of Houston. The schools are better in the newer areas. Basically look at the prices of homes. If you're paying more, you can expect more out of the schools because those parents demand better out of the schools.

A lot of the Clear Lake folks I grew up with moved on to Pearland, or south to League City (the newer areas). Those are reasonable commutes to Webster. Houston hasn't had a major hurricane in a long time, but has had some major rain events. You can't always tell when you're looking at which areas are low-lying and more prone to flood, but ask around the area and people will tell you which streets and areas to avoid. It's a patchwork!

Friendswood has the best schools and best quality of life IMO.

You might want to avoid eating at that Twin Peaks for a week or two.

the only thing you can do about flooding is buy a house that isnt in a flood plane. I will never understand people who buy a house purely on looks and not check out the land elevation.

Not being in a flood plain doesn't mean you won't ever flood. Chances may be lower but lots of people have flooded who are out of a flood plain.

We're probably going to rent at first to get a lay of the land. Somewhere around $2k/month.
