After I hit my 40's I kind of mellowed down from my partying lifestyle and focused my all into my younger kids. I'm selling my house and looking to relocate to Houston but WHERE ??? I come from a Trinidadian heritage and would love to live in a community that's not necessarily all West Indian but has a nice caribbean/american mixture and affordable houses. I come from a Natural Gas background so i'm hoping to slide back into that industry but i'm willing to try new things. Weather's not really a factor it's hot and i get that... Just need a diverse neighborhood that's family friendly and not to much in the rural areas. Any Advice ???????

What's your definition of affordable? You do know that oil and gas companies are laying people off left and right because of low oil prices right?

I think your budget, your job and good school districts will play a much bigger role in determining where you should live than whether the neighborhood has the right ethnic mixture. Without details I can't know for sure but I'm guessing it would be VERY HARD for you to find an area that meets all of your requirements.

Fat chance on getting any oil and gas job here unless you are very well connected. I suggest not coming here until those jobs come back.

There are caribbean people everywhere in this country so I have got to believe you can find those folks in Houston, but I'll be surprised if you find any neighborhoods anywhere in the state of Texas, let alone Houston, that have anything close to the number of people or the flavor you're used to in NY. Even latino/hispanic there largely means Mexican (ok maybe Salvadoran and Guatamalan, but definitely mexican) not cuban, not dominican not puerto rican.

Not impossible I guess, but unlikely. Most people pick a place to live in Houston based on where they work, what they afford, and schools. Those things will define how diverse the community you choose is.

Southwest Houston has a sizable Caribbean population but isn't the safest area. There are pockets of good areas and perhaps someone who lives there are more familiar with the good areas can chime in.
