Where are the best flower gardens in and around Houston?
I just came back from visiting a beautiful flower garden abroad and wanted to see if Houston had anything similar? Opinions anyone? Thanks!

It's pretty surprising that a city this size (or even half the size) does not have a botanical gardens. Anyone know why?

We don't have a "great" "flower" garden like some of the ones you'll find in Europe and other major cities. But the better ones here are Japanese garden, Herman Park, Bayou Bend (best seen in Azalea season), and Mercer Arboretum. I'm not a fan of the Houston arboretum. There is a plan to build a Houston Botanical Garden in Glenbrook though in the upcoming years. Looking forward to that.
Although not a flower garden, I do like the Butterfly Garden in Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Wow, Thanks everyone!
I hadn't heard of the Japanese garden at Herman Park previously, it looks amazing online and I will check it out soon.

Thanks for the other suggestions as well. I love this forum for all the info I get from its members, thanks again!
