You know, I wouldn't be talking about it.... except that it is in the news! Many of us Houstonians felt we got the bad end of the deal when UA merged with CO and made all the changes. Many would disagree, but I thought CO offered a better product than UA, and I had an allegiance with CO, they treated me nicely on all my business trips abroad.

So, when this article came up, I am a little embarrassed to admit, it brought a smile to my face.

United says CEO Jeff Smisek is out, effective immediately - Houston Chronicle

Basically, Jeff Smisek stepped down.

I agree that service went downhill after that merger.

I'm happier about Hobby becoming an international airport.

That I agree with.

The flights going to the islands and resorts is going to be busy.

Continental was great. United sucks. All their incremental changes make it more challenging and onerous for families traveling with small children. Their latest and greatest is the 3 different stops for checking bags. If it wasn't hard enough to travel with multiple kids and car seats. Forget about sitting together unless you want to shell out additional $90/person per flight!!!!

My dad was a CO employee who worked in Houston when the merger happened. His job was moved to Chicago once they became UA.

Trust me, I hear no end to the stories of what United did wrong, and for the most part I agree.

United saw itself as the company who was taking over a weaker company, and many of its decisions were dismissive of the way CO did business. It wasn't a smart move.

I'm glad I'm not the only CO platinum business traveler who doesn't care for UA. Southwest has way more of my loyalty now than UA.

I think Southwest does much better with families. We are a family of 5 and I usually buy 6 tickets so we take a whole row. It is rare that we don't sit together.

Agree with the sentiment here. I only have about 400k miles on United/ Continental, and things were much smoother with CO.

Immediate resignation usually means something bad was uncovered. I'd sell UAL.

Nobody liked him. It is fairly easy to be ousted when you erode support.

Wasn't Jeff Smisek the CEO of Continental when they merged ? It seems like he would have brought the Continental way of doing things with him when he moved the company to Chicago. It's interesting that his replacement Oscar Munoz is also a old Continental guy..
