We have Smith Thompson and also bought our own equipment. The false alarms are more likely than not the result of equipment issues or setup. I don't know if they'll do much in terms of helping you setup your security system, but at $15/month, I don't expect them to.

ADT is horrid! Stay away, FAR away from them! We had them in the past for years and hated them. We were so glad to get rid of them. We were paying ADT (or Allied Direct Thieves as I like to call them) over $50/month for basic cellular monitoring with a 3-year contract. I tested the alarm on occasion and it would always take them at least 5-10 minutes to call after it went off to verify. That is horrible.

We had Smith Thompson after ADT and while the price is good, you get what you pay for. Their cell transmitter can not tell them what tripped the alarm, only that it is a fire or burglar alarm. Duress codes are not available with it either. They are also very limited on what existing systems they can monitor and/or support.

I use Alarm Masters and they have been excellent. They are a local company and one of the very few companies that is even actually monitored locally in Houston. Their customer service is thousands of times better than ADT's and so are their prices. I pay $37/month for dual-path cellular and broadband monitoring. I also have an app on my iPhone (Android available also) that can control the system completely and sends me notifications whenever it is armed/disarmed, system problems, or when it has been set-off. It shows the exact sensors that have been tripped and any additional ones that might be tripped such as motions when walking around the house. They also don't take shortcuts by installing crappy wireless all in one systems like ADT and Simply Safe. Everything is hard wired when possible, the only time they add a wireless sensor is if there is no possible way to run a wire to where one is needed. They also call within a minute of the alarm going off and do not waste time going through a bunch of numbers, they call the house or cell once and if no answer they dispatch.
