You could put a 2 foot lattice on the top of the fence to get some extra height.

Crepes will shed flowers. If it's near the pool, that would be a consideration.

Yes, that's why they need to plant them on the other side of the fence if possible.

We have been lucky with our durantas. Maybe when they are well established or on a protected place.

Nix the crazes if they are close enough to drop flowers, seeds or bark into the pool.

We had very good luck with a wall of wax myrtle. Took the second year for them to really take off.
