As an example, Dallas currently has the following fast food taco franchises off the top of my head (and there are probably more trying to squeeze into that hot market):

Taco Bell
Taco Cabana
Taco Bueno
Taco Casa
Taco Villa
Del Taco
Rosa’s Café
Rusty Taco
Torchy’s Tacos

Meanwhile, in Houston we have:

Taco Bell
Taco Cabana
Torchy's Tacos

Why is it so difficult to open a chain here? I would just like to be able to grab a quick taco through the drive-thru and I'm sick and tired of Taco Bell.

A common complaint. There's no places to get tacos in Houston. It's so hard to find a damn taco in this town!

Houston doesn't need anymore Mexican places to eat. The only thing I would be in favor of is the crappy places closing and opening of good ones. We don't need more fast food places period.

We have Laredo and I will stand in that line any day for those tacos. Don't care too much for the fancy tacos but we have Velvet Taco now too.

Well, your wishes have been answered because both Taco Bueno and Del Taco have closed down recently. But, I for one, like to have a variety of fast food tacos to choose from and can't understand why the chains in Dallas outnumber us 9 to 3.

Harder than Dallas, that's for sure!

Okay, we could add Velvet Taco to the list, but they have it in Dallas as well. And there is only one location, so it's not exactly convenient for about 3/4 of the population in Houston.

Laredo, I'm guessing your talking about Laredo Taqueria on Washington and not the Laredo Cantina located in Stripes. I would doubt there are any long lines in Stripes gas stations for tacos. So yeah, I've tried plenty of taco trucks and mom and pop restaurants around Houston and several are good or even great, but they are not really the quick convenient multi-location drive thru's that serve all of Houston that I'm looking for in this post.

Most of those taco joints you mentioned are Americanized with extra 50% markup to the product. Why do you want more of those here?

I'd rather skip most of those listed and go to hole in the wall places

If you desire to eat chain tacos in Houston, I don't know what to say.
