Yup you have to be in the right lane on the freeway here to get anywhere during heavy traffic. lol

I moved here from No Cal, North Bay/Oakland over 20 years ago and am glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised. The weather's fine with me here and I live in a house that I love that I would've never been able to afford there. I like the people here too. Oh, and the traffic here is better too although that seems to be deteriorating fairly quickly lately.

And "rat race" is an individual thing. You can live a very relaxed life with a full plate or have a non-stop restless mind with lots of free time. Houston is just another large city with the typical features that is just a backdrop for one's mental state.

The biggest factor: where is your family? We moved here 13 years ago and are enjoying the many benefits. However, my family still lives in the East Bay and airline tickets are only going up. I take my kids back for a month every summer and we soak up the mountains, dry air, and family. Then we come back to affordable fuel, groceries, housing, and my husband (who works for a company that is much happier with their TX taxes).

I used to dream about moving back, but we cannot have the same quality of life for our children. So we Facetime a lot.

My family is not in the Bay Area. They are spread out all over the place. I have a small family and they live in three different places. it's a small factor for me.
