The bus route just reached a huge expansion so this shouldn't be a problem. Try something along the Northline or East End line that way you have rail access. Or even, look at the Double Tree downtown. It's as low as $89. not too bad

That's over $4000/month and is anything but cheap relative to a permanent place to live.

Given lodging costs downtown, it would be cheaper to rent an economy car and stay at an extended stay outside the loop.

Didn't realize anyone was looking at downtown hotels as a permanent place to live.

Well, he's not here on vacation or business. If it's just 2 or 3 days then no big deal. I just got the impression it could be much longer. It could take weeks if not months to find a suitable place to live. Someone who doesn't have a car is probably not that well off financially.

If you're not in a big hurry, there's a few cheap extended-stay places near Hwy 6 and I10, within a ~10-15 minute walk of the P+R that will take you downtown.

Note that P+R bus fares are considerably higher than local bus fares.

Thank you for the suggestions.
Yes, it could be a while before I can find a permanent place. I would have to be very lucky to find a place in 2 or 3 days, so I was looking more in the lines of $50/day.
I managed to find a motel in booking.com, within budget and with local bus route.
The addicks park & ride area was also a good option, with the disadvantage of a longer commute.
