Hi, my family is moving to the Houston area in May and we are trying to balance our desire to live in the suburbs with my husbands daily commute into downtown. We are looking in the "Spring Trails" area in Spring. Because of their close location to the on ramp, they say that it is only a 36 minute commute. Is that pretty accurate or way off? Does anyone have any personal experience commuting from Spring or using the toll road? Is is expensive, worth it? Any thoughts would be appreciated

Hmm if I have the correct street, you're in between I-45 and the toll road. I would say you should just try to see which route is best for you. I never use the toll road anymore. I live in the 1960 area so I always drive down 45 and it usually takes 20 mins on a really good day. A high traffic day is about 35-40 mins. I forgot how much the toll road is but if I remember correctly, it costs about $1.50 - $2 one way which will probably be more for you since you'll start at a little further north on the toll road. So multiply that by how many times you plan to use the toll in a day. Either way, you're gonna hit traffic going south down 45 and traffic coming from the east on hardy toll road.

I did live on 1960 for awhile and the Hardy autobahn was an absolute God-send for me. It can really reduce the stress of the commute. If $2 a day is the worst money I wasted for some commute sanity, then I felt like I was doing pretty good. It will spoil you if you use it.

^^ lol, yeah. i always listen to new music when i take 45 so the traffic doesn't bother me. i actually enjoy it. isn't there a pass you can get for the toll road so you don't have to stop and worry about paying?

I have a good friend who lives in Spring Trails (great neighborhood) and that sounds pretty accurate as far as avg. commute time to Downtown Houston (which isn't too shabby), considering you'll spend 10 minutes of that just getting out of Spring Trails and Riley Fuzzel....most other suburbs (The Woodlands, Cypress, Champions, Katy) you're looking at 45 minutes (best case) to over an hour commute.
