I'll be watching Texans playoff live game for the 1st time with wife. I know traffic is horrible. So how many hours should I be at reliant for parking? What are recommendation you can give me to make this experience more memorable. This probably my 1st and last since ticket is hundreds of dollars.

where do you plan on parking?

I was at the Sunday night game against the Pats and we had a parking pass at the (I think) orange lot next to the Astrodome. I drove down 288 to Old Spanish Trail and then turned onto Fannin and drove right up to the parking lot with zero traffic about 2 1/2 hours prior to kickoff.

I have always seen minimal traffic taking Old Spanish Trail compared to the 610/Fannin exit. Also, I heard the Fannin exit has a lot of construction: http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans...o-nrg-stadium/

I haven't done this for a Texans game, but also look into the rail line.

Assuming you have a pass and want to park in a lot, here is how to turn 15 relatively boring halftime minutes into exit glory. At halftime, go to your car and find a new spot close to the exit and close to an aisle and back in. I did this at a game last year (only attended one) on advise from a friend. I attended a game this year and didn't do it, and regretted it. I missed a few plays at the end of the first half and beginning of the second, but it was well worth it.

I did the rail once a few years ago, and it went very well; however, every time I've gone after, the people I went with didn't want to take the train and insisted on parking on site.

My recommendations:
1. Take the train.
2. Park in lot but burn halftime to strategically position car.
3. Just back in and be ready to sit a long time.

blue lot is easy to get out of (less than 15 minutes) after the game but it depends on where your parking pass is. you can only park if you have the parking pass for that specific game.

Lots will open 4 hours prior for tailgating, you should tailgate/drink beer in/around your vehicle for the experience. I would plan to arrive at NRG at least an 1-1.5 hours before kickoff.

I'd take the rail. The games are a blast. Have fun!
