hi guys, i just purchased a new vehicle and am planning on getting a TxTag instead of EzTag.

Any disadvantages of going with TxTag? i like the fact that i don't have to pay $15 fee that comes with each EzTag.

I drive a lot on beltway and westpark as part of my daily commute to and from work so TxTag would have to work seamlessly.

thanks!

No disadvantages at all. I've had them in all my vehicles since they first came out. Used them with no problems anywhere.

It all just works, and shows up on your bill. I have a Tx Tag on my car because of the lower upfront cost, plus the smaller mandatory refill amount. You still get the discounts on HCTRA roads the EZTag users get.

BTW, all tags have to be usable on all toll roads through the US by October, so get the TxTag.

I had a major problem with HCTRA and TX Tag communicating when I had a problem with my TX Tag. They both totally screwed me and it will cost me $900 for an attorney or $1900 for BS fees they wont take responsibility for.

IMO pay the extra $20 for EZ Tag. It'll be one less corrupt group of incompetent and rude EEOC hires to deal with once you have an issue.

I've had the TxTag since it came out. I like it because it didn't have the BS fee that the HCTRA charges to "activate" your EZTag, and the minimums are smaller too. There was a hiccup last year when the FBCTRA changed billers, but unlike the previous poster, I dealt with it myself. It was a pain, and dealing with HC/FBCTRA's can be frustrating, but one glitch in 8+ years, I can deal with that.

Plus it's not this bright blue/yellow thing on my windshield (I know they've toned it down)

I've been listening to my coworker dealing with TXTag problems with HCTRA for over a year, never got resolved. She's on the phone with both and got bounced around. While they promised her it would be taken care of, she still received 2 or 3 bills with penalty each month with an active TXTag, still not resolved til this day.

It doesnt matter now because all toll roads in Texas accept all forms of tags. Same for the T tag in D/FW
