Does anyone know how to change elementary schools or if we are stuck with the one zoned to?

The school zoned to is not ranked well but another one 5 minutes away is one of the best in Houston.

Is it possible to get a kid into the good one and preclude having to go to the poorly ranked one?

Yes, there are kids in our elementary that are not zoned to it but I don't know the details of how they went about it.

Yes, it is possible. It's not very likely. It depends on the campus involved.

That information doesn't say much. I was looking for info not available on Google.

You can try, but it is stressful. There is a list published with open spots by grade by school. You have to reapply every year. No guarantee siblings will get in. This year I heard of one school who did not let transfers (who had been at the school the previous yr) start until the third or fifth? day of school "just in case" more zoned kids enrolled.

Yes, as I said it is technically possible but not very likely. It depends on the campuses involved. The highly rated ones are often at capacity.

Check out page H-2. You need the form filled out and deliver it in person to the school principal. The form is not available right now, as that window has closed.

I think they put the list up mid February of the schools with space available, but it might not be available for each grade or program even if the entire school has not been capped.

They cap when the school is at 95% capacity. I think meadow wood is a newer building with capacity around 600. I would call the registrar.
