Construction for the new 288 toll lanes, 2 north and 2 southbound, are supposed to start soon. But I just ready that Meridiana, a 2,700 acre community will be breaking ground soon too. Coupled with the 300 acre Pomona, are the 2 lanes each way really enough? Meridiana will add about 5,500 homes in next 15-20 years.

Once the toll lanes open up, you'll be able to enjoy it for a short period before it's nullified yet again. If I buy in Pearland, I'll probably be able to enjoy those toll lanes for a small period. Predictions!?

I still think the toll lanes are a terrible idea. so much for Houston wanting to improve commuting options. Would have loved to see them extend light rail down to pearland.

The toll lanes will be a great idea.

They will be short lived just like the Katy Tollway, which during rush are backed up just like the freeway. But until they get a new plan into action they will help with commute times.

Light rail makes sense if you have a network to connect to. If you had the downtown line connect to the Galleria/Greenway, then you could actually have something. As it is, to run a light rail line 20+ miles to service a tiny slice of the population isn't the best way to spend tens of billions of dollars.

If you want a short term solution, if they were serious about it, you could use heavy rail (trains) on the underused stretch of rail next to FM 521 and make it all the way to the Med Centre. Problem is, like all these things, you need the infrastructure to get to the stations. Parking, further transit, etc. None of that is in place, and there just isn't a critical mass of people to make it happen.
