How do you get in to taste anyones BBQ other than to be a judge?

How do you even get to be a judge?

Is it even worth it to buy the normal bbq ticket just to get a sandwich?

1. Damn near impossible. You can get access to a certain teams tent if you have an affiliation with them somehow (my wife's company sponsors a team so we get access to that tent).

2. No freakin' clue how to get your name in the judge hat. In this city, I imagine if you are asking this question, you have no chance.

3. No.

Definitely not the answers you want to hear, but this is how the rodeo bbq is handled. If it were a free for all for the general public, or even if the public paid to have access to all of it, it would be chaos.

If you do not know a cooking team the BBQ Cookoff is waste of time you will just be walking around there are like 2 or 3 tents that sell food to everyone but it is not worth it to stand in line for 30min for on small plate of food. Just better to hit up Old Hickory Inn Gatlins or Killen's

You have to have access to a private tent to taste the BBQ. Tickets are not sold but given out by the tent or it's sponsors.
You probably have to be on a Rodeo committee that overseas the BBQ cookoff to be a judge.
Not worth going if you do not have access to a tent or you are not a cute young woman in cutoffs and boots. They can get in almost all tents without tickets.
