To downtown?

Also, are you using 59? How's it flowing down there around 90A with all that construction? Haven't been down there in awhile...

Generally, 59 is not too bad. A lot will depend on your location as to the time to get TO 59. You're talking roughly 20 - 25 miles to downtown. Before 7:00 it's about a half-hour, I'd say, after that to around 8:30 or 9 you're looking at 50 mins to an hour. I work on the loop, not downtown, so I can't vouch for the return trip from downtown to the loop, which does plug up, but south of 610 it flows pretty good in the afternoon. (20 minutes or so from 610 to Williams Trace)

90A's not ready yet. I went that way the other day, (accident on 59) and it was really slow when you get near 610 and one of the lights in stafford was insanely long.

Default Apartment in Cypress area.

Well, I decided on some apartments in the Cypress area, how is the commute over there? I mean to other parts of Houston, including downtown.

Can I be brutally honest with you here?

When it comes to traffic you could not have made a worse decision, especially if you're going to the center of the city or anything on the opposite (SE) side. 290 traffic is the worst, both ways, everyday.

US 290 has the worst traffic?? I thought that title was bestowed upon either I-45, I-10, or US 59. It seems that highway serves a smaller population (Prairie View, Homestead, Hockley, etc.) than the more denser suburbs South and directly North of Houston.

Out that far (e.g. Hempstead) it's not so bad. It's basically from the loop to Cypress that it's bad.

Default Hello Jfre81

Well, other suggestions that you have as you have for commuting. My friend told me that the Cypress area is really nice, and the apartments over there. What other areas do you think that are good, with easy commuting besides the ones that were mentioned earlier. I have a cousin that stays in Northwest Houston as well, and he has no trouble commuting back and forth. I would like to be in an area where I know some people.

290 is the most congested in or out bound freeway. There is no other route to get in. 59 gives you the west park, 45 gives you the hardy, and 59 ? sorry - I don't know!

I believe there are xpansion plans and hempstead highway expansion.

I heard TXDOT has stopped all expansion plans on a number of systems. I think 290 was included in this.
I think Cypress is a nice place to live if you work in Cypress or very near it.

Live where you work. Visit family on the weekends.
