My daughter will be entering 1st grade in August. We applied and got accepted to school of the woods BUT since the application our business has taken a nose dive. We decided to apply for financial assistance but were told that SOTW has a small fund that is already used up for 2016-2017 school year.
SO
I was under the impression from my research that a lot of private schools offered financial aid but it was different thn school private funding. Maybe I'm not understanding.

Can anyone refer us to a good local Houston and surrounding area private school that has financial aid that isn't limited. If that makes sense.

Have you considered Catholic schools? They're usually much less inexpensive than SoTW, especially if they're connected to a parish. Some may still be considering applications for the upcoming year. I think you may run into some difficulties since most application deadlines for admission and financial aid have passed.

The financial aid for most private schools has already been allocated for next year. Also, the application deadline has passed for most schools.

You may have to go to your zoned public school or borrow the money for TSOW. What's your zoned schools? Maybe I can help you navigate the Spring Branch or HISD public schools.

I doubt you can find a private school with a much cheaper tuition than the $11,000 TSOW charges.

Yes, by this time private schools have already extended their admission offers with financial aid packages. However, the deadline for accepting offers is early April so it may be that some spots open up as families decide to go elsewhere. I assume the likelihood of a spot opening up including generous financial aid is very slim, but it could happen.

Assuming you are zoned to Cy-Fair schools since you mention Cypress, your public school option likely compares quite well to other public elementaries.

Thank you Meyerland.
I had researched funding for private schools and thought it was something else than what SOTW is saying.
We actually live in jersey village area and zoned to Frazier. She won't be going there. She is in affordable private school now that only will go to 5th grade. But wanted to get her out for first grade.
I had surgery last year that took longer to recover, months so my school research got pushed to the side.
The curriculum of this school for elementary is what my father calls "little house on the prairie" type teaching. Her kindergarten is Montessori and the teachers are certified Montessori so it will be a change.
I'd appreciate any referrals that you have or ideas. Thanks

Ah, you are not far from me but we are zoned to Gleason. First thing I would do if I were you would be to submit a transfer application to Gleason, or to another open campus that is commutable. Transfers are awarded first come, first served basis so submit it even if you intend to go private.

We were rezoned from Reed to Gleason just a couple of years ago. As such the kids in my neighborhood are still evenly split over Gleason, Harmony and various private schools. The list of private elementary schools among my neighborhood circle (i.e. schools that are relatively convenient from this area) includes in no particular order:

Northwood Montessori (does not go past 1st grade though)
St. Theresa - Memorial Park
Awty
St. John's
Cypress Christian
First Baptist
St Mark Lutheran
Trinity Classical (hybrid home-schooling type)
The Branch School
Trinity Lutheran Downtown
St. Jerome Catholic
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
Regis
Presbyterian
Holy Spirit

These are the ones that come to mind. You will find the church-affiliated schools to have lower tuition, as previously mentioned.

Other schools in the northwest that I know about include the Banff School and The Redd School. The Redd School especially might appeal to you if you liked SOTW.

Good luck!

Here is the Cy Fair transfer list.
http://www.cfisd.net/download_file/15202/2603/

The transfer form will be available April 1st. You should review the campuses to see if any meet your desires.

Here are the school profiles for each elementary school.

Good luck! It sounds like it may be wise to keep her at her current and more affordable private school.

If you live in the master-planned communities of Cypress, it may not be worth it to pay for private school. Cy-Fair ISD (like neighboring Katy ISD and all the other suburban Houston-area school districts) is very reputable and provides a good education even in the less well-off parts of the district. In Texas, the school district's reputation is what drives the success (or failure) of master-planned communities.
