We're strongly considering buying a home in the North Richmond area (West of Harlem, near the Tollway). The home and community seem very nice, but the only concern we have is it being zoned to Bush HS, which I've heard less than great things about.

Our children are young enough that they probably won't ever go there - we don't plan to live here that long - but our oldest might hit middle school (Crockett).

I guess, how concerned should we be?This is a great house for our price range, but I don't want to overlook the school situation. What is the problem at Bush, exactly? Crime/gangs? Poor academics? Why do people speak badly of it? Do those problems stretch down to the middle and elementary school levels?

And that is? Seriously, I have no idea what this means. I'm not from here, I'm looking for a legitimate answer before I make an offer.

Bush is located in a diverse area but not the income bracket some desire so they think its "rough" when in reality its a typical suburban school...

Thank you Well, we're not in the highest income bracket ourselves (just a friendly neighborhood civil servant!), so I assume our neighbors will be the same. That in itself doesn't worry me, no matter what color they are.

As long as it's not gangs or drugs or rampant violence then, it sounds like it would be fine?

Unfortunately we lost the house over night while I was making up my mind. But I appreciate the information, in case another home in this area comes up!
