Today, I was in my backyard and I have some kind of Palm tree. I was showing someone the palm tree when I noticed the mouse on the tree. Then I noticed 3 more mouse on the tree. I also noticed the debris as it was chewed up.

We don't have a mouse problem inside our house. But this scares me!

Here are some pictures:

I am in Houston TX.

No reason to be scared, it's only mice. If you want to get rid of them, buy some rat sized sticky traps and put them at the base of the tree. Toss them in the trash when the mice get stuck.

Thanks WRM20!

I am calling my gardener on Saturday to completely trim the Palm tree. I have tons of dead fronds (leaves) hanging. I have read that rats/mice live in those fronds.

I believe the official name is "Roof Rats".

Rats/Mice also reproduce very quickly and that is a my concern.

Many palm tree varieties need to be trimmed and groomed every spring. If you get rid of those dead fronds and other stuff, the mice will leave.

A few mice outdoors are nothing to worry about. Owls and hawks consider them a delicacy. Be sure your exterior doors and garage door seal tightly when closed so mice won't get in.

Thanks Svensk08!

I will definitely get it trim down this Saturday. I freaked out when I saw a mouse on a tree. Never seen that before! Thanks for your help!

Also, at this point I am not sure how many mouse are living in that tree!

Please don't buy those sticky traps. Downright cruel. A regular mouse trap is better than that (though not by much). I wouldn't worry about them much. Svensk08 has it right.

Roof rats are common problem. People don't have to know about them for quite some time. There's a difference between roof rats and mice.
Roof rats would live in the attic or garage, and can do a lot of problems. Outside mice is different story.

Palms get brown , dead leafs every year, you need to trim it regularly.

Also, don't leave out rat poison because the rats can carry it off and someone's pet may eat it.

Also if a mouse eats poison, and then a dog eats the dead mouse before you spot it...

Have the tree trimmed so they have nowhere to go. And then get a cat or a snake. Remember snakes don't spread hantavirus.
